The Solution to the Israel / Palestine Conflict

For decades, there has been international consensus and legal requirement that Israel must completely withdraw from the illegally occupied Palestinian territories, Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.  This is shown by the hundreds of UN resolutions that have been passed, multiple times per year, every year, since Israel invaded these sovereign territories in June, 1967, and started ethnically cleansing the Palestinian population from the land, demolishing their homes, and building its own homes in their place.  This is a no-brainer, and every year, the UN vote is the same: Every country in the world says Israel must stop doing this and completely withdraw from and end blockades of these illegally Israeli occupied territories, and the USA and Israel say no.

So, for example, in 2008, the vote for one such resolution went 179 to 2, the whole world (always including Iran) in favor, and only the US and Israel opposed.

In 2013, one vote went 165 to 6, the whole world in favor, and only the US, Israel, and four US dependent South Pacific islands, such as Micronesia and Palau, opposed.  (The Obama regime, in opposition to virtually the whole world, has vetoed almost 30 resolutions (combining General Assembly and Security Council) condemning Israel or calling for assistance to the Palestinians.  For perspective, the US has used almost 100 Security Council vetoes.  Britain is next with about 40, then France with about 20, then Russia and China with about 9 each.)

This international consensus that Israel must totally withdraw from and cease its blockades of all Palestinian territories is also shown in the opinions of the most recognized human rights organizations, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, the Red Cross, several Israeli human rights groups, and many others.

It is also agreed on by the highest and most esteemed legal body in the world, the International Court of Justice, in which all fifteen judges (including the US judge) agreed and issued a ruling in 2004 that Israel's settlements in and occupations and blockades of Gaza, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank are illegal, and Israel must withdraw completely and respect the June 1967 borders.  All fifteen judges agreed.  This is not a controversial issue.  International law states that countries cannot acquire territory by war.  Israel acquired Gaza, West Bank, and East Jerusalem by war, so they are occupied Palestinian territories, and Israel's claim to them is null and void.  Simple.

All 22 states in the Arab League are also in agreement.  Every year, their vote in favor of this settlement is 22 to 0.  (A propaganda line falsely attributed to Arabs, which was actually made up by the first Israeli prime minister David Ben Gurion, is that Arabs said they would push the Jews into the sea.  See details on this false claim at bottom of post.)

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) also voted in agreement with these terms.  All fifty-seven countries agree, including Iran.  The vote is 57 to 0.

Since being elected in Gaza, even Hamas has expressed agreement multiple times.  (Dr. Finkelstein addresses this and other questions about Hamas in the first lecture, below)

Even George W. Bush and Colin Powell agreed that a wall should not be constructed so as to steal Palestinian land.  Bush actually proposed cutting funding to Israel, but congress, including some people like Hillary Clinton, who openly support Israel's illegal expansion by ethnic cleansing, made a big stink and blocked the fund cut from happening.

Every year, the BBC World Service conducts a poll of 26 countries scattered around the world.  Every year Israel is in the bottom four, and is often ranked below even North Korea, as being the country that has the most negative impact on the world.

Thus, the entire world, apart from a microscopic extremist fringe of people in the US and Israel (such as Hillary Clinton and Benjamin Netanyahu) is in agreement that the two state solution for the conflict is to use the June 1967 borders, before Israel illegally conquered and annexed, through war, more Palestinian land.

The world consensus is that Israel should exist - but within its own borders.  It must cease and desist all occupations, blockades, demolitions, ethnic cleansing and expansions beyond the June 1967 borders, all of which are grossly illegal, and completely withdraw from the Gaza, West Bank, and East Jerusalem.  Period.

That is what the entire world agrees to, and what international law requires.

International law also says that all states must make sure that the law is applied to Israel.

The one reason states are not doing this is because the United States is, criminally, preventing anyone from doing so, and is blocking international law and democracy from being implemented.  Extremists like Hillary Clinton, who have some influence over the empire, do not care about international law or world opinion, and say Israel should be able to keep land that it stole from the Palestinians in June 1967.

Therefore, the US is using its military and economic power to prevent the internationally agreed upon laws from being applied.

Why is the USA supporting this illegal expansion and ethnic cleansing?

Answer:

The US wants to dominate all of the Middle East, having recognized since at least 1945 that the Middle East is a key to world power.  Israel is essentially a US illegal nuclear military base in the region.  So the USA does not want to lose Israel as an ally by making them stop their illegal expansion of their territory through ethnic cleansing, and give up the land they already illegally stole.

So to keep its useful nuclear base in the Middle East, the US blocks the law from being applied to Israel, and allows the ethnic cleansing to continue unabated.

That's what the USA is and has always been about: private profit and power through mass suffering, criminality, and blocking democracy, aka fascist authoritarianism.

The USA will not stop blocking international law on its own.  It must be forced through public pressure, which is why we need to spread the information and build the pressure, and force the USA to either make Israel obey the law, or allow other states to make Israel obey the law.

This can be done.  The public has forced the USA to change its policies many times, and the USA is again the one and only obstacle preventing this consensus solution to the conflict from being implemented.

Raul Hilberg, "widely considered to be the world's preeminent scholar of the Holocaust, his three-volume, 1,273-page magnum opus, The Destruction of the European Jews, regarded as a seminal study of the Nazi Final Solution", (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raul_Hilberg), has highly praised Finkelstein's exceptional scholarship, and has even remarked that his conclusions about Israel do not go far enough in their critique.

Another key book is "Defending the Holy Land" (link), by Zeev Maoz, who was the head of the Graduate School of Government and Policy at Tel-Aviv University, in Israel. He also served as the Head of the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies (1994–1997), as the Academic Director of the M.A. program of the National Defense College of the Israeli Defense Forces (1990–1994), and as Chairman of the Department of Political Science at the University of Haifa in Israel (1991–1994).

"Most of the wars in which Israel was involved, Maoz shows, were entirely avoidable, the result of deliberate Israeli aggression, flawed decision-making, and misguided conflict management strategies. None, with the possible exception of the 1948 War of Independence, were what Israelis call "wars of necessity." They were all wars of choice-or, worse, folly."

The map below shows the evolution of sovereignty over historic Palestine from 1946 to the present. The first panel shows approximately how much land was owned by Jewish residents in 1946. The second shows the UN partition plan, which proposed giving 55% of the land to Jewish sovereignty even though Jews owned about 7% of the land. The Arab world rejected this, but they were overpowered by well-armed and organized Zionist militias funded and aided by Europe. In 1948, the state of Israel was declared on the white area in the third panel.
In 1967, Israel also conquered the West Bank and Gaza, and the fourth panel shows Areas A and B as staked out under the Oslo Accords — the less than half of the West Bank and Gaza that falls under even limited Palestinian control. Many Israeli leaders in high government office claim much of Area C as Israeli territory and would prefer to force the Palestinians to live in cantons or ghettos largely confined to Areas A and B without meaningful sovereignty, and label this a “two-state solution.” The Palestinians will never allow it to happen, and neither should people of conscience anywhere in the world.

The US government has also vetoed dozens of UN resolutions condemning Israel’s violations of international law. And here is a list of the nearly 100 UN SC resolutions that the US has vetoed, many to prevent Israel from having to withdraw from the illegally occupied territories.  The vote is usually every country in the world in favor, and the US and Israel opposed:


The list also includes other vetoes by the US.  For example, the US is the only country to have ever vetoed a resolution calling on all states to observe international law.  

You can also see, in the list, several resolutions that the US vetoed that condemned Apartheid South Africa.  This was when the US was supporting Apartheid.  

You can also see many resolutions that the US has vetoed that attempted to put limits on chemical and nuclear weapons proliferation.  

Here is one example of how the US has used its veto:

What you see above is 3 UN resolutions, in the year 2007, calling for a convention against female discrimination.  In two of the resolutions, the US is the only country in the world to veto.  In one of them, it was joined by one other country, presumably Israel.  

When the US uses its veto, since it is one of five imperial countries that are members of the security council, it means that no action is allowed to be taken on the resolution.  

To give a bit of perspective, from 1972 to 2002, Russia used its veto twice.  

In second place after the leading user of the veto since 1965 (the US), is Britain, with 32 vetoes.  Then France, with 18,  then China, with 9.
  

Read through the list of vetoes and see what the US is all about.  You will not find this list referenced in US media.  When Obama whined that the UN doesn't work because Russia and China used their veto to try to prevent the US from attacking Syria, neither he or the media mentioned that the US is by FAR the world's leader in vetoing UN resolutions.

Last note:

The last few holdouts who support Israel's expansion beyond its borders, through ethnic cleansing, are akin to the last few people who supported South African apartheid.  You are not noble for being a tiny minority defying the world.  You are depraved people supporting a state's expansion through ethnic cleansing.

The whole world is saying:  We don't want the state of Israel (within its borders) to go anywhere, and we know it will not.  Israel is the most potent country in the Middle East, with hundreds of illegal nukes, decades long massive US funding and backing, and US nuclear allies peppered throughout the area.

Israel is not going anywhere.  Everyone expects Israel to keep its arms, and everyone agrees Israel can even build a massive wall.

But it has to build the wall on its legal border, and not use it to steal Palestinian land.

What NO ONE (except the last couple of extremist holdouts) supports is Israel using its vast riches to illegally expand its territory through the ethnic cleansing campaign it is carrying out against the incomparably poor Palestinians.

World to Israel: We want your state to exist and be strong - but within its own borders.  The only thing we object to about you is your illegal expansion of your state into Palestinian land through ethnic cleansing.

If you build your safety wall on the legal border, you will no longer be breaking any laws, and you will give yourself a HUGE boost in world opinion, which currently ranks you below North Korea in terms of the negative impact you are having on the world, because of your illegal expansion into Palestinian land through ethnic cleansing.

The world is not asking the US and Israel for anything special: Just for international law to be applied.

On 11 October 1961 Israeli Prime Minister David Ben Gurion declared in the Israeli Knesset:
‘...the invasion of the Arab armies at the expiration of the Mandate will destroy the Jewish state and push all the Jews into the sea, dead or alive’.
In reality, the phrase about pushing Jews into the sea, which is daily used as a defense of Israel and to condemn Arabs, was just made up by Ben Gurion.  The origin of the phrase has been traced to him by researchers and found to have been stated nowhere else.

So not only did Arabs NOT say that, but Ben Gurion (and others like him) revealed personal viciousness and desire for ethnic cleansing and terror against Palestinians on numerous occasions:


In 1937, Ben Gurion stated:
The compulsory transfer of Arabs from the valleys of the proposed Jewish state could give us something which we never had, even when we stood on our own feet during the days of the First and Second Temple.
And in a letter to his son, also in 1937, he stated:
We must expel the Arabs and take their places and if we have to use force to guarantee our own right to settle in those places­ then we have force at our disposal.
And in early 1948 Ben Gurion wrote in his War Diary,
"During the assault we must be ready to strike the decisive blow; that is, either to destroy the towns or expel its inhabitants so our people can replace them."
And in February 1948, Ben Gurion told Yoseph Weitz, director of the settlement of the Jewish National Fund and head of the official Transfer Committee of 1948:
"The war will give us land. The concept of ‘ours’ and ‘not ours’ are peace concepts, only, in war they lose their whole meaning."
And Theodor Herzl, founder of the World Zionist Organization, said in 1892:

[We shall] spirit the penniless population [of Palestine] across the frontier by denying it employment. Both the process of expropriation and the removal of the poor must be carried out discreetly and circumspectly.
Ben Gurion also said:
"Why should the Arabs make peace? If I was an Arab leader I would never make terms with Israel. That is natural: we have taken their country.... We have come here and stolen their country. Why should they accept that?"
The Zionists did not drive the Palestinians into the sea, but they did drive them from their homes and villages and ancestral lands and from Palestine and into squalid refugee camps, and in the process massacred two to three thousand [through murder, terrorism, rapes, and mutilations].

Much of the perception of Israel and much of its popular support rest on the myth of the purity of Israel and much of that can be traced directly to David Ben Gurion’s distortions of truth. The unambiguous historical evidence is that the state of Israel was founded upon terrorism and the ethnic cleansing of the indigenous Arab population.
